Cannon Beach Reads: “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”

The book that will be discussed at the Cannon Beach Reads meeting on Wednesday evening, November 20, will be The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams. Adapted from a 1978 BBC Radio 4 program, The Hitchhiker’s Guide is comic science fiction. The novel’s protagonist, Arthur Dent, is scooped off the earth by his friend Ford Prefect just before a cosmic construction crew destroys the planet in order to build a freeway. Dent and Prefect travel the galaxy meeting weird characters and getting into strange predicaments.

Adams was a British author, screenwriter, essayist, satirist and dramatist. Reviewers have described The Hitchhiker”s Guide as ‘inspired lunacy’ and as ‘one of the funniest SF spoofs ever written.’ Bob Lundy will be leading the discussion on Wednesday, November 20 at the Library.

Cannon Beach Reads meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.  New members are always welcome.  Come enjoy the discussion and have some coffee and delicious treats.
