NW Author Series: Ellen Notbohm

Ellen Notbohm, an internationally renowned author whose work been translated into twenty languages,  has written four award-winning books on autism, as well as articles and columns on history, genealogy, baseball, writing, and community affairs.  The River by Starlight is her first work of fiction.  Set in the Montana of the early 1900’s, The River by Starlight deals with issues of motherhood, gender roles and mental illness.  Notbohm’s debut novel has been awarded the 2018 IPPY Gold Medal in West-Mountain–Best Regional Fiction, and is a Next Generation Indie Book Awards Finalist in Regional Fiction, as well as a Powell’s City of Books Staff Pick.  Reviewers have called the novel “graceful and unflinching” and “captivating,” and have called the writing “exquisite” and the work “a mesmerizing story with beautiful prose.”
