Matt Hunter will bring us an update on razor clams in the northwest with his talk, “Oregon’s Razor Clam Resource; Past, Current, and Future.” Matt is a shellfish biologist with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) in Astoria. He has 26 years of experience with ODFW and has valuable insight and appreciation for the natural cycle of our marine fisheries.
“Razor clams are harvested by licensed intertidal commercial harvesters. This commercial fishery dates back to the late 1800’s and traditionally accounted for a high percentage of the total catch. Today, commercial activity accounts for an estimated 15% of the total razor clam harvest, the remaining harvest is recreational.” ODFW
