The book that will be discussed at the Cannon Beach Reads meeting on Wednesday evening, October 16, will be Lab Girl, by Hope Jahren. An award-winning geochemist and geobiologist, Jahren taught at the University of Hawaii and at Johns Hopkins University before accepting her current position at the University of Oslo in Norway.
Lab Girl is both a treatise on plant life and a memoir in which Jahren recounts her life as a scientist, beginning with her childhood playing in her father’s laboratory in Minnesota. Reviewers have called Lab Girl ‘engrossing’, ‘brilliant’, and ‘moving’.
John Markham, himself a marine biologist, will be leading the discussion on Wednesday, October 16, at the Library. Cannon Beach Reads meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. New members are always welcome. Come enjoy the discussion and have some coffee and delicious treats.
