Oregon Book Award Authors Tour: Sindya Bhanoo, Presented by Literary Arts and the NW Authors Series

April 20, 2024 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm –

Author Sindya Bhanoo will be at the library on Saturday, April 20th at 2 p.m. as part of the Oregon Book Awards Authors Tour, presented in partnership with Literary Arts and hosted by the library’s NW Authors Series. Her story collection Seeking Fortune Elsewhere won the 2023 Oregon Book Award’s Ken Kesey Award for fiction. The Oregon Book Awards are presented annually by Literary Arts to honor and celebrate the work of outstanding Oregon authors.

Bahnoo’s story collection Seeking Fortune Elsewhere features intimate stories of South Indian immigrants and the families they left behind. Spanning from Pittsburgh to Eastern Washington to Tamil Nadu, these stories about dislocation and dissonance see immigrants and their families confront the challenges of leaving and staying, identifying sublime symmetries in lives growing apart.

Sindya Bhanoo is an award-winning fiction writer and journalist who has worked for The New York Times and The Washington Post. She currently teaches creative writing and journalism at Oregon State University.

Closed Captioning
Closed captioning provides a transcript for the audio track of a video presentation that is synchronized with the video and audio tracks. Captions are generally visually displayed over the video, which benefits people who are deaf and hard of hearing, and anyone who cannot hear the audio due to noisy environments. Most of our website’s video content includes automated captions. Learn how to turn captioning on and off in YouTube.

Volume Controls
Your computer, tablet, or mobile device has volume control features. Each video and audio service has its own additional volume controls. Try adjusting both your device’s volume controls and your media players’ volume controls to optimize your listening experience.
